Connecting Through Social Media

Social media is one of the ways we connect our members, staff, and community to everything happening at the Y. Whether it’s sharing inspiring stories, highlighting programs, or celebrating milestones, these channels are an extension of our mission; strengthening our community.

Our main goal is to help people feel connected to the full experience of being part of the Y. Our association’s social media pages are a key way to build those connections and engage individuals throughout the broader community.

Meet Buffer!

Buffer is a social media scheduling tool that helps plan and share content across platforms like Facebook and Instagram. It will allow departmental staff and me to better collaborate and maintain timely, brand-aligned, mission-driven messaging.

Take the Quiz
After reviewing this guide, take the short quiz. Once passed, you’ll receive an email invitation from our Keegan to join Buffer.
Schedule a Post
Learn how to create and schedule content by watching the video. You’ll only be able to post for the entire branch.
Draft & Request Approval
Posts go to the Drafts tab until you hit “Request Approval.” Once approved, your post will be scheduled to publish.
Explore Buffer’s AI Assistant

Who Can Use Buffer

Coordinators, Supervisors, and Directors, may be granted access to Buffer to represent our association's social pages. If someone needs to be added or removed from access, please notify Keegan.
Please note that we will have administrative control to ensure brand alignment. All posts must go through an approval process before going live. Direct publishing is not permitted.

What Should You Post?

Aim to share organic, timely, community-centered content that brings the Y story to life:
- Candid photos and short videos from programs
- Staff introductions and team highlights
- Positive member stories and testimonials

Remember!

Limit to 1–3 posts per week per department.
Wait at least two hours between posts.
Aim to delay youth-related posts by at least an hour from time of capture.
Avoid using live video.
Avoid posting cancellations or emergency notices for your specific departments; phone, text, and email work best for those.

Content may be removed when necessary; guidance may be provided if so.
